Thanks to everyone that showed up and helped with our
SAWS Cleanup last
Saturday morning on Keechelus Ridge
at the radio tower and around the local area. We
had approximately two dozen SAWS members show up and we
collected about 200 lbs of garbage according to the transfer
station receipt. This only
took us about two hours time. It sure
didn't seem like that much weight
to me, but I guess the scale doesn't lie. The back of
my F-250 short bed pickup was about 3/4 full
of garbage when we were done around noon. We found
lots of non-snowmobile related garbage again like we did
when we cleaned up the Reecer Creek Sno-Park a few months
ago. We found a shot up lawn mower, shot up propane tank,
and many other items not related to snowmobiling. But we
also found quite a large amount of beverage
containers and cigarette butts,
many of these very well could have been from snowmobilers
hanging out near the tower taking a break from riding or
waiting to meet up with a riding buddy. Not sure why
everyone can't pack their garbage out with them.
My wife and I were also
very surprised and honored to receive a thank you
card with a $250 donation to SAWS to
help offset our costs, and also
a gift certificate for
the Salish Lodge at Snoqualmie Falls
that was given to us to thank us for our volunteer work
related to SAWS.
Later in the day I also received another SAWS donation for
$100. This was truly awesome! I
don't know who all donated this
amount of money to SAWS, and also for this special
gift certificate that was
presented following the cleanup, but I want to say
THANK YOU so much for the thought. Marisa
and I really appreciate the gift certificate, and SAWS
really appreciate the $350 donation.
Here are a few pictures from
the cleanup.
Unfortunately not everyone made it back to the tower in time
for the picture. We still had about 6 or 7 people out
picking up garbage when the group picture was taken.
